What We Do
Walking a dog is a fantastic form of exercise, and experts have reached a consensus that physical exercise, when done carefully has numerous important benefits. Exercise improves many aspects of physical and phycological health. It strengthens the heart, lungs, bones and muscles, helps control weight, helps manage diabetes and arthritis, reduces the risk of colon and breast cancer, heart disease and strokes. Exercise also improves sleep, increases energy levels, boosts moods and reduces the risk of depression and the impact of stress.
Mindful Dog Walking Program
Our Acehounds mindful based dog walking program offers gentle walks with our dogs while experiencing the marvels of nature. From listening to the birds singing in the trees and breathing in the fragrance of the wild flowers to watching the change in nature throughout the seasons, there is always something to observe or hear which is a very relaxing activity for people suffering from anxiety or stress.
We also have a visiting program where we will visit people in their homes who will benefit from meeting the dogs. Time spent stroking dog’s triggers oxytocin release which alleviates stress while it will also disperse the pleasure hormone ‘dopamine’ boosting both your mood and long term memory. So a visit will be a very enjoyable, calming, social experience.
Acehounds provide opportunities for students struggling with school life through our working with schools program.
We have greyhounds at our kennel’s that have retired from racing which we are rehoming.
